I feel like everyone finally knows how bad sugar is, but I just wanted to remind you in case you forgot.
1. On average 40% of the sugar consumed is stored as fat. That’s right along with all the toxins and chemicals it can really add on the pounds.
2. Sugar disrupts serotonin production, which results in making you depressed and addicted to the crappy food that is making you feel bad.
3. Sugar is linked to learning disorders in children, including ADD/ADHD. To me this fact seems more logical than shocking.
4. Sugar is connected to cancer, and the greater the consumption of sugar the greater the risk of cancer. This connection has been well established. Reduce sugar = reduced risk of cancer.
5. Sugar brings the immune system to a halt, almost freezing white blood cells responsible for absorbing harmful invaders. It’s still cold and flu season, so be mindful of this one!
Sugar affects every organ in the body and plays a leading role in almost every health condition and disease known to mankind. In fact, the ingestion of sugar causes many vitamins, minerals and enzymes to be removed from healthy cells, exhausting the body of valuable nutrients. That’s a hefty tax on the ol’ body.
The World Health Organization recommends consuming no more than 10 percent of daily calories in sugar. Using this rule, and based on a 2,000 calorie per day diet, sugar consumption should be limited to around 200 calories per day, or approximately 30 to 50 grams of sugar.
