The Sanscrit name of the heart chakra is anahata, meaning un-struck. The heart chakra is associated with the parts of consciousness in respect to unconditional love, compassion and spiritual growth. This fourth chakra includes matters of devotion and forgiveness, and parallels gifts from the heart such as benevolence and empathy.
The relationships associated with the heart chakra are with those whom are closest to our heart such as our partners, parents, siblings, children and pets. The parts of the body associated with this chakra include the heart, lungs, blood and circulatory system. This chakra is also associated with the thymus gland, which controls the immune system. The physical sense associated with this chakra is the sense of touch.
When someone experiences extreme sensitivity about being touched or an inability to express heartfelt feelings, we would enquire if there was an energy deficiency at the level of the heart chakra. Inappropriate emotional outbursts would indicate excess energy at the level of the heart chakra. This chakra is associated with the element air. Our relationship with air and breathing reflects our relationship with love. Respiratory issues such as asthma, emphysema, or tuberculosis may suggest an imbalance in the heart charka.
